Academic Leaves

Students may request leave of absence for up to two consecutive semesters. If approved, the student is eligible to enroll for the semester designated on the form without application for readmission. To request such a leave and the intent to return to UW-Eau Claire, schedule an appointment with a member of the Student Development and Diversity staff. The form must be completed in consultation with appropriate offices/people if it is a leave for the Collaborative Nursing Program or Special Education Non Candidate for Degree.

Important Requirements:

1. Students who do not attend UW-Eau Claire for one or two consecutive  semesters must complete the Academic Leave form.

2. Graduate and special students are not eligible for leave .

3. Students may not attend classes at any institution while on an Academic Leave unless they are on International/Collaborative Nursing Program/Non Candidate for Degree leave. Before returning to UW-Eau Claire, the student must submit transcripts of the institution attended .

4. If a student is suspended for academic reasons, the leave is automatically canceled and the student must apply for readmission.

5. If the student has received financial aid including loans, a statement on the form will be signed and when the student returns to UW – Eau Claire, a new financial aid application may need to be completed .

6. If a student desires University housing at UW-Eau Claire upon return, the student must make arrangements with the Housing Office.

7. If the student is enrolled at UW-Eau Claire for the semester during the academic leave, classes must be canceled before the beginning of the semester.
