The Friday before spring break turned out to be a very busy time for parents. Instead of holding a meeting on campus right away we are going to try to use technology for our parent & family organization meeting. We will be holding a virtual meeting on April 24, 2008 from 12:15p.m. - 1:00p.m. All you need to participate is a phone. If you'd like to participate please email us prior to April 21st. Then we'll send you a toll free phone number and code to connect via audio conference with other parents and UWEC staff members. We're hoping this option will allow participation for some who might not be able to attend a meeting in Eau Claire.. Please email family@uwec.edu to RSVP. ![]()

If your student is considering withdrawing from one course or from ALL of his or her courses, this is important information your student needs to know...
![]() |
Withdrawing from a course -
Tuesday, April 8, is the last day to withdraw from full-semester courses and receive a "W" grade. Students may obtain a Change of Registration form from the Registrar's Office or print off the form found on-line. Your student should then secure the signature of his or her academic adviser and the instructor of the course, and return the completed form to the Registrar’s Office, Schofield 128, by 4:30 p.m., Apr. 8.
Note: Short courses that began during the second-half of the semester have later withdrawal deadlines. Students should check the Course Searching option on MyBlugold to find those dates.
Withdrawing from ALL courses –
Tuesday, April 8, is also the final day to withdraw from the University for the spring semester. Students should go to the Office of Student Development and Diversity, Schofield 240, where your student will obtain a withdrawal form and meet briefly with an Associate Dean of Student Development.
Financial Aid Repayment –
If your student received financial aid, you should be aware of the federal regulations regarding repayment of aid. The amount of repayment is based on the number of days students were in attendance, until a student has completed at least 60% of the semester. Only after that time, may students keep 100% of the aid awarded. For the Spring 2008 Semester, a student will not owe a repayment if officially withdrawn from the University on Apr. 4, or later.
What if your student is unsure about whether or not to withdraw?
1) Your student should talk to his or her professor and/or adviser.
2) Students should also be sure they understand the potential effect of withdrawal upon academic standing.
Students can also go on-line to learn more information about withdrawal and "W" grades.

Smiling Graduates |
One of the most effective ways for your student to find a job is by networking. Networking is an exchange of ideas, advice, referrals, and contacts. A built-in network consisting of former employers, friends, families, etc., is something that your student already has. Networking might seem like an old tactic in this incredibly technological savvy world and it is tempting to use the internet as the primary source for job hunting. But commercial job sites such as monster.com are massive. According to recruiting.com, these sites are often called “resume black holes” and only 3-5% of job seekers actually find employment through them.
To network effectively, your student can follow these steps. First, they need to know exactly what they are looking for. For example, a retail management position at company xyz doing ABC. Next, your student can make a list of everybody and anybody they know. Your student can also use Blugold Career Link, a program where students can search positions and post their profiles for employers to view. Have your student tell everybody that they are looking for a job. Then, your student can think of people that can be part of a “hot list” which includes people with a direct connection to the field/company/position that your student is seeking employment within.
Encourage your student to start networking! Even if your student feels that they do not know anybody in their field, tell them that they will be surprised at the connections people have.
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is committed to providing all students with an equal educational opportunity to fully participate in all aspects of the university community. The Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office works with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to facilitate services and accommodations that will ensure that university facilities, programs, and activities are universally accessible to students with disabilities. A disability is defined by law as a mental or physical impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities. "Substantially limits" means being unable to perform or significantly restricting a major life activity, in comparison to the average person. A "major life activity" is defined as caring for oneself, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, and working. Some of the most frequently requested accommodations and services include: test accommodations, audio textbooks, note takers, library assistance, course-specific tutoring, and sign language interpreters. If you think your student needs assistance, encourage him or her to contact the SSD office by calling 715 836-4542 or stopping by Old Library 2136 for more information.
