What is SATA?

SATA is the Student Atheltic Training Association on the UWEC campus.

  • SATA members provide healthcare to all 20 UW-Eau Claire supported athletic teams under the supervision of Certified Athletic Trainers.
  • Members also are athletic training majors studying to sit for the Board of Certification exam upon graduation.
  • Funding from the race will be used to help send students to the state, regional, and national athletic training association’s annual symposium.
  • Part of funding will also be donated to the NATA Research and Education Foundation.

What are athletic trainers?

  • The official job title is is “athletic trainer” or “certified athletic trainer" NOT “trainer”
  • Certified athletic trainers hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree with a major in athletic training and are focused on injury prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation. Seventy percent hold a master’s degree or higher. They are required to pursue continuing education to retain their certification.
  • Certified athletic trainers should not be confused with personal trainers.  Athletic trainers are allied health professionals whereas personal trainers focus primarily on physical conditioning and fitness. There are no standardized educational requirements for personal trainers. Simply using the term “trainer” by itself creates confusion differentiating between athletic trainers and personal trainers.

What is the NATA Research and Education Foundation?

The foundation is a group under the National Athletic Trainers' Association. The foundation's goals and strategies are as follows.

  • Plan and implement an on-going total development program that establishes endowment funds, as well as restricted and unrestricted funds, that will support the research and educational goals of the Foundation Advance the knowledge base of the athletic training profession.
  • Encourage research among athletic trainers who can contribute to the athletic training knowledge base.
  • Provide forums for the exchange of ideas pertaining to the athletic training knowledge base.
  • Facilitate the presentation of programs and the production of materials providing learning opportunities about athletic training topics.
  • Provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students of athletic training.
