CJ 350/550  Human Resource Development
  C or above in CJ 300 & CJ 307 or BSAD 280 & MGMT 340.  Minimum resident and total GPA of 2.50.  Not for GE
Introduction to the human resource development field., emphasizing training and development.  HRD needs assessment; design, delivery, and evaluation of programs for employee development.

Human Resource Development and CJ Department Goals

Departmental Philosophy:  Long noted for the excellence of their academic and co-curricular programs, the Communication and Journalism faculty remain committed to a philosophy emphasizing the development, integration, and practical application theories, knowledge, and skills related to communication, journalism, and mass communication

 CJ Program Goals and Objectives.  The academic programs of the UWEC Department of Communication and Journalism are designed to prepare students for responsible roles in communication, journalism, and mass communication.  The Department offers diversified curriculum in which all students can expect to develop in these areas: 

1.  Oral, written, and visual communication skills; 
2.  Research and information-gathering skills;
3.  Critical and analytical thinking;
4.  Awareness and knowledge of communication processes in diverse cultural, social, legal, and ethical contexts  

CJ 350/550 -- Human Resource Development is designed (1) to develop oral, written, and visual communication in the design and facilitation of HRD workshops and seminars; (2) to develop research and information-gathering skills in preparing and designing these seminars; (3) to develop critical and analytical thinking skills in a series of instructor- and student-designed workshops and seminars; and (4) to develop an awareness and knowledge of communication process in diverse cultural, social, legal, and ethical HRD contexts.

Human Resource Development contributes toward development of (a) an understanding of human behaviors and human institutions (within HRD contexts); (b) an ability to inquire, think, and analyze (determining needs and designing HRD program interventions); (c) an understanding of values (professional HRD values, organizational values, respecting values, values clarification) and an appreciation of the university as a learning community (learning groups).
