Program Goals and Objectives.
The
academic programs of the UWEC Department of Communication and
Journalism are designed to prepare students for responsible
roles in communication, journalism, and mass communication, the
Department offers diversified curriculum in which all students
can expect to develop in these areas:

Oral,
written, and visual communication skills;
2.
Research
and information-gathering skills;
3.
Critical and analytical thinking;
4.
Awareness and knowledge of communication processes in
diverse cultural, social, legal, and ethical contexts

| Interpersonal
Conflict is designed (1) to develop oral, written, and visual
communication in classroom discussions, research of a specific aspect of
conflict or negotiation, and in written and oral reports presented in
class; (2) to develop research and information -gathering skills in
applied research and in classroom exercises; to develop your critical and
analytical thinking abilities in a series of classroom exercises focusing
on analyses of conflict dynamics and in your research into a specific area
of conflict; and (4) to develop an awareness and knowledge of the roles
and influences of diverse cultural, social, legal, and ethical contexts on
conflict dynamics. |

308--Interpersonal Conflict is designated as a General Education
course, not only because it focuses on the development of conflict
communication skills, but also because it contributes toward (a) an
understanding of human behaviors and human institutions (within conflict
situations); (b) an ability to inquire, think, and analyze (conflict
causes, situations, strategies); and (c) an understanding of values (and
how they affect conflict and negotiation dynamics). |
