You may earn a maximum of 150 points for participation: in the
actual classroom, in the virtual (on-line) classroom, and in the
research and planning of team presentations.
|
|
Participation in class |
| Your primary means
of earning participation points are (1) coming to class (2) on
time (3) prepared to (4) participate in class discussions and
exercises (6) until the class is ended and (7) for conscientiously
participating in your team's projects.
If you miss class--even if you have good reasons--you
miss your opportunity to participate, to contribute to the class.
|
|
Participation out of class |
|
Your group will
have to schedule additional meetings outside of class
(face-to-face and “virtual”) to prepare assignments and
presentations for class. Your participation in those meetings will also be considered
in determining your participation grade.
|
|
Attendance |
| Attendance is
required and recorded.
While you cannot
earn an “A” for participation simply by being in class every time
it meets, you cannot and will not earn an “A” for
participation if you have more than one unexcused absence.
Nor will it be possible for you to earn a grade of “C” or
above in participation if you have more than three unexcused
absences. Absences can be “excused” only by the instructor
|
|
Unexcused Absences |
| An absence will be
considered "unexcused" if it is unexplained or if the
"explanation" does not justify the absence--that is, if the absence was
avoidable. Scheduling nonemergency appointments during class
time does not constitute justification, whether you are meeting
with another faculty member, with subjects you are interviewing
for a class, or even a Placement Office interview. Extending your
vacations is not an excused absence. |
|
Excused Absences and Alternative
Assignments |
|
If an absence is excused by your
professor, you are eligible for alternative assignments to
make up the participation points you would have earned if you
had been able to attend and participate. If you miss class
because of illness, take good care of yourself and e-mail me
when you can. Please feel free to ask or e-mail any questions
you have regarding applications or interpretations of this
policy.
