CJ 250  Introduction to Organizational Communication
Communication theories, concepts, skills, and insights required of organizational newcomers are emphasized

Organizational Communication and the UWEC-CJ Curriculum

  Departmental Philosophy:  Long noted for the excellence of their academic and co-curricular programs, the Communication and Journalism faculty remain committed to a philosophy emphasizing the development, integration, and practical application theories, knowledge, and skills related to communication, journalism, and mass communication.
  CJ Program Goals and Objectives.  The academic programs of the UWEC Department of Communication and Journalism are designed to prepare students for responsible roles in communication, journalism, and mass communication, the Department offers diversified curriculum in which all students can expect to develop in these areas:  
  1.  Oral, written, and visual communication skills; 
2.  Research and information-gathering skills;
3.  Critical and analytical thinking;
4.  Awareness and knowledge of communication processes in diverse cultural, social, legal, and ethical contexts
 
  CJ 250 -- Introduction to Organizational Communication is designed to help you develop, integrate, and apply the theories, knowledge, and skills you will be able to use to become more effective in communicating with or within organizations. You will learn theories and principles you can use to better understand, analyze, and evaluate organizational communication processes. You will apply research and information-gathering skills as well as analytical and critical thinking skills as you analyze case problems and brief field studies.   And you will demonstrate and further develop your oral, written, and visual communication in class discussions, in written reports, and in oral presentations (PowerPoint visuals required) throughout the semester.
 

Organizational Communication and the UWEC Baccalaureate

Organizational Communication contributes directly toward development of (a) an understanding of human behaviors and human institutions (organizations); (b) an ability to inquire, think, and analyze; (c) an understanding of (organizational, group, individual) values.  Organizational analyses will include development of (d) an historical consciousness; (e) an understanding of science and scientific methods; and (e) an understanding of numerical data.
