 CJ 201 -- Interpersonal Communication
  
3 crs (3-0). F, Sp. GE-IA
Emphasizes knowledge of the factors and processes affecting communication in relatively unstructured face-to-face contexts, and the development of communication skill in those contexts. Topics include relationships, conflict, self- concept, and self-presentation.

Interpersonal Communication and CJ Department Goals
  Departmental Philosophy:  Long noted for the excellence of their academic and co-curricular programs, the Communication and Journalism faculty remain committed to a philosophy emphasizing the development, integration, and practical application theories, knowledge, and skills related to communication, journalism, and mass communication
  CJ Program Goals and Objectives.  The academic programs of the UWEC Department of Communication and Journalism are designed to prepare students for responsible roles in communication, journalism, and mass communication.  The Department offers diversified curriculum in which all students can expect to develop in these areas: 
   1.  Oral, written, and visual communication skills; 
 2.  Research and information-gathering skills;
 3.  Critical and analytical thinking;
 4.  Awareness and knowledge of communication processes in diverse cultural, social, legal, and
      ethical contexts  
  Interpersonal  Communication is designed to promote the development of oral, written, and visual communication, interpersonal social problems, and critical anlytical thinking in classroom discussions and in oral and written assignments.
       
Interpersonal  Communication and the UWEC Baccalaureate

  Interpersonal  Communication is designated as a General Education course, not only because it focuses on the development of communication skills, but also because it contributes toward (a) an understanding of human behaviors and human institutions; (b) an ability to inquire, think, and analyze; (c) an understanding of values (how they influence interpersonal communication and other group dynamics); and an appreciation of the university as a learning community (learning groups).
