Some ideas and input for the next version, which I will probably work on over winterim or next semester:

• Add an option to filter or search by date, in addition to location.
• Add a 'calendar' feature to the date selector.
• Conversion to the ASP.net framework, and other general updates.

• Fixed a problem where the wrong user information was being shown by default after clicking to add a posting.

Saturday, September 7, 2002:

• Just got done with a major overhaul, pretty much recoding the entire site. The login now takes place using a form page, secured using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). The site has been approved by housing, and is going through the final stages at WebDev, and should be live sometime on Monday.

Monday, September 2, 2002:

• Improved ASP coding to use the OLEDB Microsoft Jet object for the database connection, along with a subroutine to eliminate repeated code for the "Needing Rides" and "Providing Rides" lists.

Thursday, April 4, 2002:

• Basic option to search by city & state complete. May work on a list to display multiple zip codes associated with a single city at a later date.

Wednesday, April 3, 2002:

• Authentication: Anyone may view the introduction to the site. However, only UWEC authenticated users are allowed to view or post rides. If using a university-owned computer and using Internet Explorer, the process will take place automatically. If accessing the site from off-campus, the user will be prompted for a UWEC username & password by the browser. Internet Explorer is more secure, as the information is sent with encryption. Netscape is unfortunately limited to plain-text transmissions.
• Record deletion: The user that created a record is now able to delete it using the details screen. This is useful if they make a mistake in the entry, or no longer need the ride.
• JavaScript conversion: Converted some JavaScript in page footers over to ASP code to fix a date problem with Netscape, and is guaranteed to work on more browsers.
• SQL optimization: Fixed a problem where the "details" window took a long period of time to load.
• The new system is up and running! This new version replaces the old on-line system, based on regions off of the physical ride-board system. Once approved by the director of housing, the transition of phasing out the physical ride boards located around campus will begin.

Tuesday, March 29, 2002:

• The United Hall Council votes to transition all the physical ride boards into a new online system. You may view the UHC recommendation here.
