Opera Workshop Ensemble

Scene from Gianni Schicchi

Welcome to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Opera Workshop Ensemble

Each semester, the Opera Workshop Ensemble offers performing opportunities for students interested in broadening their operatic and music theatre knowledge and experience. In the fall semester, the workshop, which meets as a class four hours a week, produces a scenes program or a one-act opera with piano. Full productions with orchestra in the spring semester alternate annually between musical theatre and opera in collaboration with the Theatre area. Recent productions include Pirates of Penzance, Cabaret, Gianni Schicchi, Suor Angelica, The Mother of Us All, The Magic Flute, A Little Night Music, The Merry Widow, and many others. Also a part of the Opera Workshop program is its outreach arm, Opera on Wheels. This touring ensemble travels to elementary schools throughout western Wisconsin, giving many children their first opera experience and teaching them about the fundamentals of opera.

Involvement in the Opera Workshop program is open to all UW-Eau Claire students by audition. For further information, please contact Opera Workshop director Dr. Mitra Sadeghpour (msadeghp@uwec.edu).
