The Vecchione/Erdahl Duo is an ensemble specializing in chamber music of a different color. Through their commissions, they have effectively created a varied, virtuosic, and engaging repertoire for their instrumentation. Recently they presented recitals in Baton Rouge, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Oklahoma City, Duluth, St. Paul, Chicago, Ithaca, NY, Ely, and Lakeville. They are recipients of Jerome Commissioning, Encore and Subito grants from the American Composers Forum. As Pages of Music with Rolf and Carrie, they blend music and literature in educational programs, and are roster artists for Young Audiences of Minnesota, and Partnering Artists with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra’s CONNECT program in the schools.
Carrie Vecchione teaches oboe at the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis. She subs with the Minnesota Orchestra and performs around the country in orchestras, as a chamber musician, and as a soloist.She served as Principal Oboe for the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra,and as a member of the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic. Solo premieres include Timothy Goplerud’s Concerto for English horn and Dinos Constantinides’ Transformations for Oboe and String Orchestra. She has soloed in the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall. Carrie has taught at St. Olaf College, Ball State University, the Sewanee SummerMusic Center in Tennessee, and the International Music Camp at the International Peace Gardens between North Dakota and Manitoba. She received Doctoral and Bachelor degrees from Louisiana State University, and her Master's from the Manhattan School of Music. Her teachers have included Joseph Robinson, Earnest Harrisonand Mark Ostoich.
Rolf Erdahl is a member of the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra, and is a sub with the Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Opera and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. He teaches at Gustavus Adolphus College and at the Lutheran Summer Music Academy. Previously Principal Bass of the Winnipeg Symphony and Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and Associate Principal with the Honolulu Symphony, he has also performed with the Breckenridge Music Festival, Indianapolis Symphony, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the New World Symphony. He is a graduate of St. Olaf College, the University of Minnesota, and the Peabody Conservatory. Studies in Norway as a Fulbright and Scandinavian-American Foundation Scholar culminated in his doctoral dissertation on Edvard Grieg’s music. Eugene Levinson has been his major teacher. He has also studied with Peter Lloyd, Bruce Bransby, Paul Ellison, Hal Robinson, and James Clute.
