The periodicals collection, located on the 2nd floor of the main library, consists of journals, magazines, and newspapers, comprising approximately 1,386 current subscriptions and backfiles of nearly 2,000 closed subscriptions. Lesser-used paper subscriptions have been replaced by a growing number of journals available online. Please see the McIntyre Periodicals List.
Periodicals are arranged in alphabetical order by title. Periodicals may be in one or more formats: paper copy, microfilm, and microfiche. Each format has a separate entry in the online catalog and is found in a different part of the Periodicals Floor. Unbound issues are located on the Current Periodicals shelves (JOURNALS CURRENT). Bound volumes are located on the Permanent Periodicals shelves (JOURNALS BOUND). Microfilm and microfiche periodicals (JOURNALS MICROFILM and JOURNALS MICROFICHE) are located in cabinets on the east side of the floor.
There are also a number of smaller collections located in this area which are serviced by Periodicals Public Services staff.
BOOKS IN MICROFORMAT
Books, reports, and dissertations published in either microfilm or microfiche format are shelved in cabinets adjacent to the Journals microforms. These items are cataloged and accessed through the online catalog. Online catalog locations of MICROFICHE and MICROFILM are used to designate these materials. They are kept in cabinets labeled "Books on Microfiche" and "Books on Microfilm." Within the cabinets they are arranged by call number.
CURRENT NEWSPAPERS
