The TreeSize Professional environment consists of one main window containing menus, two toolbars, and three display panes. The toolbars can be used to clean out a drive, obtain size details on its contents, or prepare a report. TreeSize Professional allows you to manage the process within a short time period.
Opening TreeSize Professional from any University computer follows the same process. The program opens to a blank workspace.
From the Start menu, select All Programs » Utilities » TreeSize Professional » TreeSize Professional 4

From Windows Explorer, right click any folder » select Tree Size Pro
The Tree Size Professional dialog box appears.

Understanding the window elements is the key to using TreeSize Professional.
Title Bar
The Title Bar displays the software name and the drive being scanned.
Menu Bar
The Menu Bar offers many of the same choices found on the toolbars.
Toolbars
The Scanning, Data, and Overview toolbars provide access to most functions with the click of a button, including scanning, sorting, and viewing.
Status Bar
The Status Bar at the bottom of the window displays a brief summary of the selected object.
TreeSize Professional contains three display panes, each designed to serve its specific purpose. The Navigation and Drives panes are the source for content selections. The Results pane is where the selection is displayed. These panes are described as follows:
The Navigation and Drives panes work together and are located on the left side of the main window. The Drives pane shows all available drives. Selecting a drive displays the folders for that drive in the Navigation pane in a hierarchical structure.
The Results pane is located on the right side of the main window and displays the contents of the scanned drive or selected folder in the view style selected.

The Scanning toolbar contains buttons for basic functions.

| Drive combo box | Allows you to select the drive to be scanned from the pull-down list or to type the path. | |
| Scan selected drive | Runs the scan of the drive selected in the Drive Combo Box. If multiple partitions exist on the drive, they can all be scanned separately and displayed in the Navigation pane consecutively according to the order in which they were scanned. | |
| Select folder | Opens the Browse for Folder dialog box, allowing you to select a drive to scan. | |
| Rescan current folder | Rescans the drive selected in the Drive Combo Box. | |
| Automatic updates | Allows automatic updates to be applied to a scan based on Windows change notifications. | |
| Remove folder | Removes the results of the scan from the Navigation pane without deleting contents of the drive. | |
| Print report | Prints the results of the scan for the current folder. | |
| Parent folder | Rescans the parent folder of the current folder. | |
| Viewing/scanning options | Allows you to set options pertaining to both the scan and the results view. | |
| Uninstall | Opens the Add or Remove Programs dialog box. | |
| File search | Opens a search window with various options for locating specific files on all connected drives. |
The Data toolbar contains buttons for customizing scans.

| Bytes allocated | Displays results according to the bytes allocated to the file. | |

| Wasted space | Displays results according to the difference between bytes allocated to the file and the actual size. | |
| CD-ROM cluster size | Displays results according to the size required for storage on CD-RW. | |
| Files in folders | Displays the number of files contained in a given folder. | |
| Sorting Views | Sorts results by name, by size, or by no sorting order, respectively. | |
| Size Value | Displays results according to the selected value. All drives and folders will be displayed in kilobytes when KB is selected, in megabytes when MB is selected, and gigabytes when GB is selected. Or results will be displayed in the most appropriate unit based on the size of the object. The values will be displayed according to its closest allocation value. | |
| View Selection | Displays results as a pie chart, bar graph, or detailed spread sheet, respectively. |
