Connecting to Network Drives

Connecting or mapping to a network drive is a shortcut for accessing a network connection that is not stored on your system. This gives you access on shared networks to other servers or drives (e.g., H: drive, W: drive).

  1. Click FINDERFinder button

  2. From the Go menu, select Connect to Server...
    The Connect to Server dialog box appears.

  3. In the Server Address text box, type the drive you want to map

    Student Home Drive (H:) smb://students.uwec.edu/username$
    Faculty Drives (H:) smb://staff.uwec.edu/username$
    Instructor & Student Drive (W:) smb://cass1.uwec.edu/deptdir
    Department Drive (S:) smb://fs3.uwec.edu/deptsh$
    Projects Drive (P:) smb://mass.uwec.edu/projects
    People Pages (L:) smb://lucy.uwec.edu/username$
    Departmental Software Drive (J:) smb://cass1.uwec.edu/software

    NOTES:
    Where it says "username," type your UWEC username.
    You must know the exact name for both the server and the network share.
    If a dollar sign appears at the end of the share name, you must include it.

  4. Click CONNECT
    You are connected to the desired drive.

  5. If prompted, to connect to the newly mapped drive, type your username and password » click OK

  1. From the Dock, click FINDERFinder button
    The Finder window appears.

  2. From the scroll list, under the Shared section, for the network you want to disconnect, click EJECTEject button
    The network drive is disconnected.
