UW-Eau Claire Passwords

Although LTS policy requires users to change their password annually, users are advised to change their passwords frequently. This document provides password tips and lists the campus systems that require a password in order to use the system. If you need help with changing or resetting your password, please contact the LTS Help Desk, 715-836-5711.

Change your password on a regular basis and anytime you suspect that someone may have discovered your password. Listed below are requirements and recommendations for passwords that offer the greatest protection.

Your initial password is uwec? followed by your four digit PIN (e.g., uwec?1234). As a new student, you received an envelope with your username and PIN. Change your password for security reasons.

If you lose or forget your username, Blugold number or PIN, you can get a new copy. On campus, go to the Registrar's Office (Schofield 128) and bring your Blugold card or another government-issued photo ID. Off campus, contact the LTS Help Desk at 715-836-5711 or helpdesk@uwec.edu.

Your network password provides access to Windows and Macintosh workstations, Outlook client and Webmail, E-Reserve, MyBlugold, Desire2Learn, the modem pool, and shared drives via the Web. When you change your password, the change affects your access to each of these resources. In order to change your password, you must be logged on to your account. Online instructions are available to help you log on to a Windows or Macintosh station.

Frequency of Change

The first time you log on to a UW-Eau Claire Windows computer, you will be forced to change your password. Thereafter, you are required to change your password at least annually.
RECOMMENDED: Change your password more than once a year.

How to Change

Windows:

  1. Press [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Delete]

  2. Click CHANGE PASSWORD...

  3. In the Old Password text box, type your current password

  4. In the New Password text box, type your new password

  5. In the Confirm New Password text box, type your new password for verification

  6. Click OK

Macintosh and Off Campus:

  1. Log in to Outlook Web App

  2. Click OPTIONS
    A pull-down menu appears.

  3. From the Options pull-down menu, click CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD...

  4. In the Current password text box, type your current password

  5. In the New password text box, type your new password

  6. In the Confirm new password text box, type your new password for verification

  7. Click SAVE

How to Reset
  1. Go to http://users.uwec.edu/

  2. Click RESET YOUR UWEC WINDOWS DOMAIN ACCOUNT PASSWORD

  3. Type your username, Blugold number and PIN

  4. Click RESET PASSWORD
    Your password is uwec? followed by your four digit PIN
    EXAMPLE: uwec?1234

How to Change
  1. Log on to the Administrative system by typing your username and current password

  2. To change your password, type CGPASS

  3. Press [XMIT]

  4. Type your current password and press [Tab]

  5. Type your new password and press [Tab]

  6. Type your new password for verification

  7. Press [XMIT]
