Veteran Services

The Veterans Services Office (Schofield 128), under the supervision of Diane Stegner Roadt, assists veterans in applying for their G.I. Bill benefits and advises them about other benefits available from the state and federal governments. Feel free to contact Diane or her staff with any questions you might have (before, during, or after your enrollment at UWEC).

ADMISSION

All veterans interested in pursuing a degree through UW-Eau Claire should begin by applying for admission through the Admissions Office, Schofield Hall 112.
A veteran who is not a high school graduate may be admitted on the basis of results of tests required by the Admissions Office.

BENEFITS

Veterans and certain eligible dependents may be entitled to educational benefits under various programs administered by the Veterans Administration. Veterans and eligible dependents may obtain these benefits while pursuing a course of study at UW-Eau Claire. Students enrolled under these programs must carry 12 hours of credit during each semester of the academic year to be eligible for full-time allotments. Summer session allotments are determined by class dates or length of class and number of credits. All veterans must complete the Veteran Information Sheet before enrollment will be certified to the Veterans Administration. This form is available in the Veterans Services Office, Schofield 128.

Federal

The following Federal educational benefit programs are administered through the Veterans Services Office:

  • Sonny Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30)
  • VA Vocational Rehabilitation (Chapter 31)
  • Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (Chapter 35)
  • Selected Reserve Eductional Assistance (Chapter 1606)
  • Reserve Educational Assistance (REAP-Chapter 1607)

State

There are three State programs administered through the Veterans Services Office:

  • Veterans Education Reimbursement Grant (VetEd)
  • Wisconsin National Guard Tuition Grant
  • Wisconsin State GI Bill

Both the Vet Ed and the National Guard Grant have a pre-application requirement and deadline. Contact our office for further details.

Wisconsin G.I. Bill

For applications and deadlines for other state and federal veterans benefits, contact the Veterans Services Office, Schofield 128.

WDVA form 2029: The "UW-System Application for Wisconsin G.I. Bill Benefits or Residency for Tuition Purposes" must be submitted to the School Veterans Certifying Official within 14 calendar days from the official start of the fall or spring terms, by June 1 st for Summer Sessions, and by the due date for fee payment for the Winterim Session. (If the submission deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, forms are due the next business day.) Submit the completed form to Diane Stegner Roadt or Carrie Butler Becker, Registrar's Office, Schofield 128.

WDVA form 2030: Submit the completed "Request for Certification for Wisconsin G.I. Bill Benefits and Residency for Tuition Purposes" form and all necessary documents to your County Veterans Service Office at the same time you submit the application (WDVA form 2029) to UWEC in order to allow time for the WDVA to process the application, request additional information if needed, and send the completed certification to UWEC.

Credit for educational preparation acquired while in service

  1. Special Training Program: Veterans will be asked to submit official transcripts of their records. In granting credit, the University will follow the recommendation of the American Council on Education. No credit will be granted if such credit would constitute repetition of credit already earned.
  2. High school graduation equivalency will be granted to veterans who meet General Education Development (GED) Test standards as outlined by the American Council on Education, provided such tests have been completed by the date of formal registration.
