Registration

Residency

This term is used for two different purposes--one is to talk about whether a student pays in-state or out-of-state tuition and fees; the other--to refer to the time a student spends taking classes from UWEC, i.e. "in residency," versus classes (which may be applied toward the degree, but which have been) taken from another institution. Which one do you want to know about?

Residency for Tuition Purposes

If you have questions about Wisconsin residency for tuition purposes, contact the Admissions Office at 715-836-5415. In a nutshell--an individual must have been a bona fide resident of the state for at least 12 months preceding the beginning of any semester or session for which s/he is registering at UWEC, and must have come to the state for OTHER than educational purposes, in order to qualify for resident tuition. However, the determination of residency is based upon Wisconsin statute, and since statutory law never really fits into a nutshell, you may get a full copy of the statute and University policies from the UWEC Admissions Office.
