Change of Major/Minor Procedures

Department of Music and Theatre Arts

How to change to a Music-Liberal Arts, Music Education, or Music Performance major:

1. Come to the department office in HFA 156 (or call 836-4954) to make an appointment to meet with the department chair.

2. When you meet with the department chair, bring the following:

• a "What-If" Degree Audit for the new major
• any questions you have about the new major. Please note that repertory requirements to audition into the department as well as the audition application are online at www.uwec.edu/mus-the.

3. You will receive from the department chair a course outline for the music major program you wish to audition for.

4. Complete and submit the online audition application, selecting an audition date from the current semester.

5. You will be notified of acceptance to the music major after you have completed the audition. Your new major will be entered on-line, and you will be assigned an advisor.

How to change to a Music minor:

1. Come to the department office in HFA 156 (or call 836-4954) to make an appointment to meet with the department chair. Please note that repertory requirements to audition into the department as well as the audition application are online at www.uwec.edu/mus-the.

2. The department chair will answer questions about the music minor and explain the audition procedure.

3. Complete and submit the audition application, selecting an audition date from the current semester.

4. You will be notified of acceptance to the music minor if you have successfully completed the audition and your new minor will be entered on-line.

Note: Admission to the music major and minor is competitive. Acceptance is based on the quality of your audition performance. Since you may not register for music courses nor receive an advisor until you have successfully completed your audition, you must audition during the semester before you plan to change majors or add the minor.
