The
following Basic Rules should be followed by faculty, staff, and student
workers at UW-Eau Claire. This information is also here for students and
parents to refer to.

Student
records are considered confidential and may not be released without the
written consent of the student, with the exception of unrestricted Directory
Information.

Transcripts
and academic records may be released only through the office of
the Registrar.

Faculty,
staff, and student workers have access to student records for the sole
purpose of performing their job professionally and responsibly.

It is the
responsibility of faculty, staff, and student workers to verify that
student information is not restricted before releasing it.

FERPA
recognizes students in post-secondary education as adults, regardless of age.
Therefore, parents do
not have an inherent right to access a student's records.

Faculty,
staff, and student workers have a responsibility to protect student
records in their possession, regardless of the medium in which they are
presented.

Posting
grades using either the student's name, student ID# or any portion of
the Social Security# violates FERPA guidelines and is not allowed at
UW-Eau Claire.

In
an emergency situation, a student may be reached through the
Dean of Students Office.
