UW-Eau Claire Transfer Equivalencies

These are the most commonly requested schools for both Wisconsin (non-UW) and Minnesota. If the institution you are looking for is not available, you should submit a Prior Approval form. If you are not yet enrolled or attending UW-Eau Claire, contact the Admissions office at (715) 836-5415.  If you will be attending a UW-Eau Claire study abroad program, please contact the Center for International Education at 715-836-4411 about additional course information.

NSE Note: Students on the National Student Exchange program do not file a Prior Approval form.  An advising agreement completed prior to departure ensures that all the course work taken at the host institution will transfer back to UW-Eau Claire.

Prior Approval of Transfer Credits

Frequently, changes and updates are made to the transfer equivalency files. To ensure that the course will transfer to UW-Eau Claire as you intend it to, you should print out and retain the currect equivalency information.

To avoid printing all of the pages of the equivalency list, please follow these simple instructions:

  • Go to File / Print Preview and find the page number of the page that shows your equivalency.

  • Close Print Preview and return to Normal View.

  • Go to File / Print, select Pages: in the Page Range section, and type in the page number(s) that you want to print.

Sign and date the print-out, write your student ID or SSN on it, and retain it so that if the equivalency changes, you have proof of the information upon which you based your plans.
Don’t forget to have a transcript sent to the Registrar’s office from the school where you take the course.

Alternatively, you may complete a Prior Approval form and bring or send it to the Registrar's office at Schofield 128 for processing. Once the equivalency is approved by the Registrar's office, you should retain the original for your records.

Disclaimer

You may print these reports to keep as a record of how your courses will transfer.  The transfer course equivalencies listed are guaranteed for courses you take this or next semester and, when you choose to transfer, will “count” as indicated.  The equivalencies listed are accurate, but may satisfy different degree requirements depending upon your specific major or program.  In addition, course revisions or changes in requirements may cause equivalencies to change.  Therefore, it is your responsibility to (1) discuss specific circumstances with an advisor, and (2) retain printed copies of these dated reports.

Important Transfer Information

  • 23 of the last 30 credits prior to graduation from any curriculum must be earned in residence at UWEC, unless specific arrangements have been made by petition to the Dean of your School or College.

  • You must request that your transcript be sent to the UW-Eau Claire Registrar's Office, upon completion of the course(s).

  • All credits transferred from (non-UW System) two-year institutions, regardless of the UW-Eau Claire equivalency granted, will transfer as lower division credit only.

  • Wisconsin Technical College System: Up to 15.0 credits of non-college parallel coursework in communications and social/behavioral sciences may be transferred from the WTCS if the quality and content of the coursework is judged to be comparable to the coursework at UW-Eau Claire.  A total of two math and/or science courses which have been found to be comparable to UW-Eau Claire coursework may also be transferred.

Key of Codes used on the Equivalency Lists

CREDIT TYPE DEFINITIONS:

If a course has no specific UWEC equivalent, the course may be assigned elective credit, may be denied credit, or may require evaluation by the department chair. The following are codes which may be used to indicate this and their explanations.

*NSE Note: Students on the National Student Exchange program do not file a Prior Approval form.  An advising agreement completed prior to departure ensures that all the course work taken at the host institution will transfer back to UW-Eau Claire.

ELEC No equivalent course at UWEC. Credit will be applied to the total credits to graduate.  If ELEC is listed with a department or subject name, the credit may be applied to the major or minor (unless otherwise restricted).  ELEC courses may be applied to the General requirement with the approval of the Dean of the School from which you intend to graduate.
GE If a GE category is listed in the UWEC title, it will not be necessary to clear through the Dean before using for a GE category.
LDU Lower Division Undergraduate credit (freshman, sophomore level course work) will be granted.
UDU Upper Division Undergraduate credit (junior, senior level course work) will be granted.
LDN Lower Division, No Credit
CONSULT
(CONSLT)
You will definitely receive credit for this course, but you need to consult with the appropriate department chair (of the dept. to which such a course would logically belong) to receive an equivalency.  Take your Prior Approval* form and a course description to the chair for evaluation.  Once an equivalency has been assigned, return the Prior Approval* form to the Registrar’s office for your file.
DEFER You will not receive credit for this course unless you have the approval of the appropriate department chair (of the department to which such a course would logically belong).  There is a possibility you will not be able to receive credit.  Take your Prior Approval* form and a course description to the chair for approval and evaluation.  If an equivalency is assigned, return the Prior Approval* form to the Registrar’s Office for your permanent file.
NO No credit given. Credit not accepted at UW-Eau Claire
MANUAL Submit a Prior Approval* form.
