1. What technology do I have in my classroom?

Classroom technology ranges from overhead projectors and screens to integrated classroom systems which include document cameras, VCRs, computers and video/data projectors. When visiting your classroom before classes begin, take a quick glance at the technology. If there is any equipment unfamiliar to you, phone TLTDC at 836-2651 to arrange for a classroom equipment demonstration. TLTDC also has a pool of equipment for loan to faculty and students to cover those days when the technology in a particular classroom may not suffice.

2. What software do my students have access to?

A listing of the software available to students in general access labs and in classrooms can be found. This web page will provide the information on which software is in which lab; to learn about particular software in a classroom phone TLTDC at 836-2651. In addition, full time students may purchase a copy of the Microsoft Office Suite for home or dorm use for $30.00. Direct students to (http://wiscinfo.doit.wisc.edu/wisc/) for more information. If your students need access to software not listed, please contact Carol Accola Koich (836-4644, accolacm@uwec.edu) in Student Computing Environments.

3. I need a particular piece of software for my students. How do I get it installed in the labs?

To have software installed in the general access labs, contact Carol Accola Koich (836-4644, accolacm@uwec.edu) in CNS. You will need to provide the software, the license agreement and any installation instructions that came with the software.

4. How can my students learn more about technology?

The BITS and PALS programs, coordinated by Juanita Ikuta (836-3821, ikutajm@uwec.edu) in McIntyre Library, provide workshops and one-on-one instruction for students wishing to learn more about technology. If you need your whole class to learn about a particular software package, Juanita and her staff can also provide some technology training in your classroom or in a general access lab during your class time.

5. I would like my students to use a computer lab during class. Where can we go?

Computer labs exist in all academic buildings and can be reserved by phoning the Registrar's Office at 836-3838. You can check the current schedule for the general access labs online.

6. My students are working on a group project. Is there shared file space available?

For short terms projects, your students have access to the tempspace directory by mapping a drive to \\fs3\tempspace. This shared space is purged regularly so they should keep back-ups of the files they place there. Another approach is for you to create a folder in your department's share on the W:/ drive and give your students permissions on the folder. Contact the CNS Help Desk for more information. A third approach would be to make use of the group features provided by either Blackboard or WebCT. Contact Donna Raleigh (836-5162, draleigh@uwec.edu) or Kathy Finder (836-2654, finderks@uwec.edu) for information.

7. How and where and can I publish my website?

You can publish your curricular web site by requesting space on the Lucy server. Once you have space on the Lucy server, move your web pages there and then request to have them linked. For detailed information on the process and the request form, go to (http://www.uwec.edu/webdev/Pagebuild/process.htm).

8. How and where can my students publish web pages?

For publishing class-related web projects that you want live on the World Wide Web store them in your curricular web account. Our University Web Coordinator, Lillian Hillis (836-4214, hillislf@uwec.edu), will work with you to make sure your students have the correct permission to access the space. If you do not already have an account, you can submit a Web Publishing Account Request form found online. For student projects that will not go live on the Web, you can use the DeptDir Share (the W:\ drive) for storing the projects. It also allows students to share files as they work on the project.

If you advise a recognized student organization and the group wishes to develop a website, you can use the same form listed above to submit a Web Publishing Account Request for them.

Currently, there is no provision for student personal web pages.
