Resources for Non-Instructional Staff

UW—Eau Claire resources:

CITI, for scheduled workshops and seminars, on-site (group) instruction in technology, and access to equipment for all staff.

Human Resources, provides workshops, seminars, an annual classified staff development day, and some funding for development activities for classified staff.

  • Penny France (836-2514) is the contact person in this office. She has brochures and information about various opportunities. There is also a bulletin board outside Personnel with flyers from companies that offer a variety of one-day workshop experiences.

Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, for funding for academic staff.

Resources outside UW—Eau Claire:

International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), formerly Professional Secretaries International, for networking and seminars.

  • The local chapter (Chippewa Valley Chapter) holds monthly meetings-usually including a professional/personal development speaker. During the last week of April, this chapter, in conjunction with CVTC, holds an all day seminar. This is usually an all-day seminar with a keynote speaker, four-five breakout sessions, and a closing speaker.
  • Statewide, IAAP has Chapters in most major cities. IAAP is an international organization with chapters/affiliates in every state in the US and Canada and in many foreign countries.
  • IAAP also sponsors the Certificated Professional Secretary (CPS) and Certificated Administrative Professional (CAP) ratings.

Office of Professional & Instructional Development, formerly known as UTIC, serves as a statewide faculty development resource for University of Wisconsin System institutions.

  • Established in 1977 as the Undergraduate Teaching Improvement Council, it was first led by a council of campus representatives who focused primarily on teaching improvement. As the newly named OPID, it has expanded its emphases to meet the broader professional needs of faculty and academic staff with programming on topics such as student learning, the scholarship of teaching, career stages, and faculty roles and rewards.
