The Nature of Dasein Is Dasein an Exclusively Human Entity?
| Jennifer Wilson
Heidegger's philosophy is a fairly thorough examination of life, considering components never
really addressed in philosophy until he wrote. These components of life that Heidegger addresses
include death, guilt, care, anxiety, tranquility, and social relations within one's life. Heidegger address
es these issues from the perspective of Dasein the being for whom existence itself is an issue . Dasein
has guilt, care, anxiety, tranquility, social relations, and a keen notion of death. Dasein is the individ
ual that

is aware of itself temporally, reflecting on its past, anticipating its future, and acting in an influ
enced fashion in its present state.
When reading Heidegger, one quickly relates to the concept of Dasein, understanding the var
ious modes of existence that it manifests. Readers of Heidegger seem to agree on these facets of
Dasein's existence, since Heidegger's philosophy, like most existential thought, is one that cuts to the
core of what concerns readers by addressing issues such as emotion, death, freedom, and sociological
effects on individuals.
