POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is a temporary position. The Planning Intern provides assistance for planning and
recycling activities on behalf of Eau Claire County. Performs duties related to: farmland
preservation planning; short and long range planning; intergovernmental cooperation; recycling
administration and auditing; special projects; related work as assigned.
This is a summer intern position authorized to work up to 500 hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
Ć Assists in performing and coordinating the responsibilities of the Planning and
Development Department
„R Researches, evaluates cost effectiveness and makes recommendations or provides
consultation on priorities for planning projects and other projects assigned to the
Department
„R Provides liaison between the County and other units of government and the public
and helps coordinate citizen participation
„R Organizes, conducts, and attends meetings with government officials, public and
private agencies, citizens groups and other groups as appropriate to discuss and
explain plans
Ć Provides assistance for short and long range planning, land use, property addressing, and
farmland preservation programs
„R Prepares work schedules for programs and projects
„R Compiles and analyzes information and data on economic, social, and physical
factors affecting land use and evaluates these for environmental impact and impact
on present and future residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, recreational,
and community development
„R Identifies problems and recommends resolutions
„R Submits reports and recommendations to governmental bodies for policy

„R Assist with the development of comprehensive plans and programs for utilization of
land and physical facilities of the county
„R Performs reviews and revisions of established plans
„R Ensures that meeting dates and locations are scheduled, agendas are prepared,
properly noticed, and distributed for projects.
„R Provides meeting facilitation activities when necessary
Ć Provides assistance in the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for
the County's Solid Waste Recycling Program
„R Assist in preparing specifications, monitors performance, and addresses or corrects
problems for contracted services
„R Assist in developing and implementing public education programs
„R Maintains records in accordance with directives and principles of fiscal accountability
Ć Prepares written reports and makes oral presentations for appropriate committee or
department review, revision, and policy determination
„R Conducts research and analysis and compiles data of information related to special
projects or studies
„R Prepares short-range plans, studies, and reports on projects and recommends
implementation methods to the appropriate department staff or committee
Ć Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ć Must be enrolled in a 4-year college/university with 3 or more years completed in
Urban/Regional Planning or a closely related field. Graduate students pursuing a degree in
Planning or Community Development preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Ć Must possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver's license and acceptable driving
record.
