Summer Environmental Health Internship – Pre-Announcement
Oakland County, Michigan

The Oakland County Health Division will be seeking environmental health students for summer internships in 2013. The internships will begin Monday, May 13 and likely run through Friday, August 2.

Applications for the Student Sanitarian positions will be taken on-line beginning Monday, February 11 through Monday, February 25.

The positions will be posted on the Oakland County website at www.oakgov.com. Click on the “Jobs” button on the top of the page. Then click the “Apply Online” link, followed by, “Job Postings.” Scroll down and look for “Student Sanitarian-Summer”. Follow the instructions from there.

The website is the sole method of applying. A letter of enrollment from your advisor or other proof of enrollment is required. Applicants that have an out of state license must submit their driving record or driver’s history from that state.

Telephone interviews will be conducted later to assist our selection process.

Oakland County is home to approximately 1.2 million residents and is located in southeast Michigan. We have a mixture of city and rural landscapes. The county contains the headwaters to six watersheds, feeding approximately 400 lakes. An internship here exposes the student to a variety of programs in local environmental health including: fixed food inspections, on-site sewage disposal permitting, and drinking water well program inspections. Training is provided for conducting public swimming pool inspections and sampling for our bathing beach monitoring program. The majority of the student’s time here will be spent working in the latter two programs. Arrangements can be made for low-cost housing at a local university.

I will send out a notice when the positions been posted. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the internship program. Thank you for your interest in Oakland County Health Division’s environmental health summer internship program."
