The internship provides:
#61623; An opportunity to understand how codes and standards promote food safety.
#61623; An opportunity to interact with environmental health professionals through research.
Details on the research project:
This National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) 2013 internship project is a research project to inquire about how each state is applying the 2009 FDA Model Food Code. The project involves administering a survey of 50 states to determine how they have responded to the 2009 Food Code. This project is a continuation of a research project started by the 2009 NSF Scholar.
Specifically, NSF wanted to know more about whether each state is requiring the acceptance of the FDA model Food Code for food equipment, and to find out “to what standard(s) is their (each state’s) food equipment being certified or classified. The 2009 Food Code requires food equipment to be certified or classified for sanitation by an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) - accredited certification program.

The student will receive a $3,500 stipend split in two installments. The first $1,750 will be awarded after the first month of the internship and the final installment of $1,750 will be sent after the student has submitted their final research paper to the AEHAP office.
