Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Environmental Health Specialist
Wabasha County Public Health
Environmental Services

Wabasha County is seeking applicants for the position of Environmental Health Specialist or Registered Sanitarian in their Environmental Services Department. Starting pay range is grade 8, 17.77/hour for environmental health specialist or grade 9, $18.47/hour for MN Registered Sanitarian. Candidates must have the ability to work independently, meet the public, as well as have a basic understanding of chemical principles (college course work). A Bachelor¡¦s degree in environmental health, community health, biology, or chemistry, including at least 30 semester or 45 quarter hour credits in physical, environmental or biological sciences is required (transcripts must be provided upon submission of completed application). Within 18 months of employment, applicant must hold State of Minnesota Registered Environmental Health Sanitarian¡¦s certification or employment will not continue. Preference shall be given to Registered applicants. Applicant must submit a Wabasha County application and an up to date resume.

Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Sanitarian Requirements:
A baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate degree in environmental health, sanitary science, sanitary engineering, community health, biology, or chemistry which includes at least 30 semester or 45 quarter hour credits in the physical or biological sciences.

1. To become registered applicant for registration must have one year of supervised employment in one or more of the following program areas:
„X food, beverage and lodging sanitation
„X air and water quality
„X water supply sanitation
„X housing
„X institution and industrial hygiene
„X accident prevention
„X swimming pool and public bathing
„X radiation safety
„X facility sanitation
„X rodent, insect and vermin control
„X refuse disposal
„X noise pollution
2. Supervision during the employment period must have been provided by an Environmental Health Specialist, Sanitarian, licensed health professional, engineer, other professional with a graduate degree in one of the physical or biological sciences, or other person whom the Commissioner of Health has deemed to have an equivalent environmental health background. Where the supervision was provided by a person in general management, the equivalency will be reviewed independently by the commissioner.
3. Persons who are registered or licensed in a state other than Minnesota may be entitled to register in Minnesota by reciprocity, if they can meet the requirements set forth in the registration requirements. The examination does not have to be taken, if it has already been successfully completed according to the Minnesota requirements.
