Job Description:
This position is responsible administrative work assisting in the direction of municipal environmental health and inspection services and the execution and enforcement of all statutes, ordinances, and regulations for the protection and promotion of public health and safety. The primary responsibility for this position will be rental housing and environmental health supervision. A secondary responsibility will be that of animal control supervision and acting Health Director in the absence of the Health Director. The position will also be required to assist in determining division and departmental budgets by advising the Heath Director, City Administrator, Mayor and City Council. Special projects, administrative reporting requirements, working with consultants and other city staff will be assigned as the need arises.
Salary:
$57,456 - $68,088, depending on qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental health, public health, physical or natural sciences or related fields;
Minimum of 3 years experience in the administration and/ or enforcement of environmental/ public health activities, or related field;
Current Minnesota Department of Health Environmental Health Specialist/Sanitarian Registration or ability to obtain registration within 2 years of hire;
Possession of valid Minnesota driver's license; must provide own appropriate transportation.
Desirable Qualifications:
Currently registered as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist / Sanitarian with a progressive increase in professional responsibility; Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of administration of environmental and public health activities; Previous supervisory experience; Ability to plan, coordinate and direct the activities and personnel involved in environmental and public health, housing inspection, animal control, and activities; Considerable knowledge of the facilities, equipment and technology needs for environmental and public health activities, including emergency response; Considerable knowledge of state, federal and local statutes, regulations, ordinances and standards for the protection of public health and safety; Ability to interpret city, state and federal public health policies to employees and the public; Possess knowledge of the following: property records and legal descriptions, municipal housing code enforcement, building construction and remodeling methods and practices.
