Job Title: Environmental Health Intern Department: Health & Human Services Location: Public Health Reports To: Health Officer/ Public Health Manager Committee: Health & Human Services Work Hours: 26-29 hours/week to total 300-350 hours (Approximately 5/24/13 – 8/16/13) FLSA: Non-Exempt Rate: $10.00/Hour Position Purpose: Provide assistance with environmental health inspections, and transient non-community water system testing within Barron County in accordance with Public Health statutes and regulations.
Examples of Essential Job Functions – 100% #9679; Assist in inspections of Food, Lodging and other regulated facilities. #9679; Assist in wells inspection and sample water at transient non-community water systems. #9679; Assist in completion of appropriate paperwork and/or maintenance of documentation. #9679; Assist in investigating complaints regarding environmental issues to determine the existence of a human health hazard in accordance with WI State Statutes. #9679; Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of basic principles and practices of environmental sanitation. 2. Ability to perform thorough investigations and inspections. 3. Ability to correctly interpret analysis results of samples collected. 4. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and written, with people at various levels both within and outside the department. 5. Ability to keep accurate records and write clear and concise reports. 6. Ability to apply time-management skills and ability to prioritize job-related activities. 7. Ability to demonstrate leadership, independent judgment and critical thinking skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: #9679; Mobility to move through and work in environmentally undesirable locations. #9679; Ability to work with various office equipment, including but not limited to fax, copy machines, telephone, computer, calculator, etc. #9679; Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, twist, climb, squat, lift, and kneel as needed. #9679; Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing movements requiring skill and training, such as data entry. #9679; Ability to travel to various facilities/buildings and perform work in a variety of weather conditions include, but not limited to rain, snow, hot, cold and icy conditions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Completion of at least 2 years in an environmental health program at accredited college or department of natural resources program. 2. Current WI driver’s license with access to insured and reliable vehicle.
