AMOUNT: Two at $1,000; $2,000 total
AVAILABLE: Annually
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Open to second-semester freshmen, sophomore, junior or senior undergraduates preparing to be a preschool, elementary, middle or secondary special education teacher in cognitive disabilities, early intervention or learning disabled. A GPA of 3.0 is required for application. Financial need may be considered. The renewal of this scholarship will be based upon the recipient’s academic performance, commitment to volunteerism with persons with disabilities and potential for becoming a highly effective teacher of children with disabilities.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Qualifying students will receive an email in December with scholarship application information. Also, visit the webpage www.uwec.edu/coehs/forms/index.htm and go to Teacher Education Scholarships. Complete the form and submit it to the Education Scholarship Committee. Ask two members of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction faculty, who are familiar with your achievements at the University, to submit letters of recommendation to the Scholarship Committee.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
Mid-February. Visit the webpage www.uwec.edu/coehs/forms/index.htm and go to Teacher Education Scholarships. Exact deadline will be in Scholarship Applications Directions.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The Education Scholarship Committee will review applications and select the award recipient.
SELECTION DEADLINE: As determined by the Associate Dean
NOTIFICATION:
The committee will notify the student by letter. The Associate Dean will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Thank you letters are not necessary as family members are deceased.
