Webb, Sally A. Diversity Tuition

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Applicant must be a junior or senior. First preference will be given to a Communication major with an Organizational Communication emphasis who is an U.S. American student of color with African, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, or Asian descent and/or a student with a documented disability who is a Communication major with an Organizational Communication emphasis. Second preference will be given to any Communication and Journalism major who is a U.S. American student of color and/or a student with a documented disability who is pursuing any one of the CJ department’s other majors. Applicant must have a minimum resident and major GPA of 3.0 and must have completed 60 credits by the time the scholarship money is deposited into their tuition account.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
The applicant is required to write a letter of application, in essay form, in which all of the following points are clearly addressed in no more than two, typed double-spaced pages. The content of the letter should be organized by number according to the areas listed: 1) Extracurricular activities on campus or in the community; 2) Previous awards, recognitions and scholarships; 3) How will the Webb Diversity Tuition Scholarship aid your completing a degree at UW-Eau Claire? Letters of application that exceed two, double-spaced pages will not be considered, and incomplete applications will not be considered. The applicant also is required to provide the following information and attach it as a separate typed cover page: Name, student ID number, email address, local address, permanent address, telephone, major, major GPA, completed credits in major, minor, total GPA, credits in progress, completed credits and expected date of graduation. Applicant must also submit a degree audit.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
First Friday in April.
SELECTION PROCEDURES:
The Department of Communication and Journalism Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.
SELECTION DEADLINE:

NOTIFICATION:
The Chair of the Department of Communication and Journalism will send notification to the recipient and complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office. It is expected that the recipient of this award will attend the Department of Communication and Journalism Student Excellence Recognition Reception held the last day of spring classes.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Dr. Sally Webb began her teaching career at the Wisconsin State University-Eau Claire on September 1, 1965. She was the recipient of an Excellence in Teaching Award in 1992 and the first Student Senate Advisor of the Year Award in 1998, as well as other awards. Dr. Webb officially retired from teaching in 2002, but not from her commitment to faculty and students at UW-Eau Claire. Her fundraising work, which began in 2005 for the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, helps to create new and enhance existing scholarships for the deserving UW-Eau Claire student. A letter of gratitude addressed to Dr. Sally Webb should be submitted directly to the Department of Communication and Journalism program assistant.
