AVAILABLE: Annually
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
This award is to be given to undergraduate students who have demonstrated financial need and/or scholastic achievement and are majoring in education. Preferences are for a recipient who will be engaged in a student teaching or internship experience at the time of the receipt of the scholarship and are descendants of Jewell Mickelson Walters and John H. Walters. Each of those criteria is a preference, not a requirement. The scholarship may be awarded to incoming freshmen, transfer students or currently enrolled undergraduates. It is renewable, if that is the decision of the scholarship committee.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Qualifying students will receive an email in December with scholarship application information. Also, visit the webpage www.uwec.edu/coehs/forms/index.htm and go to Teacher Education Scholarships. Complete the form and submit it to the Education Scholarship Committee. Ask two members of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction faculty, who are familiar with your achievements at the University, to submit letters of recommendation to the Scholarship Committee.

NOTIFICATION:
The Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences will send an award letter to the scholarship recipient. The Dean will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The recipient should send a thank-you letter to John and Jewell Walters in care of the UW-EC Foundation.
