Winters, Elmer Undergrad Professional Development

AVAILABLE: Annually
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The Elmer Winters Undergraduate Professional Development Award supports efforts to develop the professional interest and involvement of undergraduates who are preparing for teaching history and social studies through the following: attendance at regional, state and national conferences focused primarily on history and social studies teaching. Individual student subscriptions to periodicals dealing with teaching history and social studies. Individual student subscriptions to periodicals dealing with current events and public affairs. To be eligible for this award, the student must be a full-time junior or senior majoring in Comprehensive Social Studies, completed at least 30 credits in the comprehensive major.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Qualifying students will receive an email in December with scholarship application information. Also, visit the webpage www.uwec.edu/coehs/forms/index.htm and go to Teacher Education Scholarships. Complete the form and submit it to the Education Scholarship Committee. Ask two members of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction faculty, who are familiar with your achievements at the University, to submit letters of recommendation to the Scholarship Committee.

Mid-February. Visit the webpage www.uwec.edu/coehs/forms/index.htm and go to Teacher Education Scholarships. Exact deadline will be in Scholarship Applications Directions.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
A selection committee drawn from the social studies committee for the Comprehensive Social Studies major and chaired by the Curriculum and Instruction representative will review applications.
NOTIFICATION:
The Chair of the committee will inform in writing all applicants of the Selection Committee’s actions. The Chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.
