ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The Elmer Winters Award for Excellence in Social Studies Education recognizes students who have demonstrated potential for teaching excellence in the social studies disciplines. Eligible students must have completed ES 356 Teaching Social Studies in Grades 6-12 in the calendar year preceding the award.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Students are eligible by completing ES 356 Teaching Social Studies in Grades 6-12. No additional application is necessary.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
Students who have completed ES 356 Teaching Social Studies in Grades 6-12 in the calendar year preceding the award will constitute the applicant pool.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The Social Studies Committee will meet in January each year to select the award recipient(s) from the applicant pool.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
The Social Studies Committee will select the award recipient(s) no later than February 14.
NOTIFICATION:
The Department of Education Studies representative on the Social Studies Committee will inform the award recipient(s) in writing and submit a completed “Scholarship Award Form” to the Office of Financial Aid.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The recipient is encouraged to send a thank you letter to Dr. Elmer Winters in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214.
