ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The recipient must be enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire as a part/full-time nursing student with junior, senior or graduate standing. Preference will be given to nontraditional students demonstrating a financial need. A 50-word statement of need/professional goals is required. The award is renewable, but the recipient must submit an application for the second year. There is no need for any new 50-word statement of need/professional goals unless there have been significant changes.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Application Forms: Students who are admitted to the nursing program at UW-Eau Claire will receive an email in late February/early March when the scholarship application is ready and available. The email will include the path to the online application forms. PART ONE is filled online and submitted electronically. PART TWO (the essay and activities form) is filled out online and printed off, signed and submitted to the Dean’s Assistant Office, Nursing 103, by the deadline. Only one essay can be submitted. The essay must address the eligibility criteria for each of the scholarships that they wish to apply for. Financial Need: For scholarships that indicate “financial need required” a FAFSA Financial Aid form must be filled out and there must be some level of financial need.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Selection procedures are to be determined by the Nursing and Health Sciences Scholarship Committee with the approval of the Dean.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
Prior to the Nursing scholarship dinner
NOTIFICATION:
The student will be notified by letter by the Dean. The Dean will also submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
This scholarship was established by Dr. John Thurston as a tangible, continuing expression of Dr. Thurston’s enduring admiration for nurses and the nursing profession.
