Dr. Ronald Warloski taught in the History Department from 1964-1998, and was Chair of the Department from 1991-97. Not satisfied with using the classroom merely to impact knowledge, he continually explored ways to prod his students to think critically and to assume responsibility for the moral implications of their judgments. He was especially known for his popular class on Nazi Germany. Ronald’s wife, Johanna, is the daughter of Jan and Maria Taminiau, for whom the scholarship was originally established. Jan and Maria lived in the Netherlands, where Jan was a well-known businessman. Jan Taminiau had a life-long interest in History, read across a broad area of interests and visited many historical and archeological sites while traveling. Maria Taminiau studied art as a young woman and continued an interest in art and music her entire life. Both Jan and Maria had a strong value system in which religion was important. They both encouraged community involvement and civic responsibilities. When they visited UW-EC, they most appreciated its emphasis on the Liberal Arts, particularly the Humanities. |
