Sentry Insurance Student Leadership

2 freshmen and renewal awards at $2,500

The Sentry Insurance Foundation will award two scholarships to incoming freshmen attending UW-Eau Claire to promote educational opportunities and encourage the educational pursuit of gifted academic leaders who have chosen to major in any of the following disciplines: Business Administration, Computer Sciences or IS, Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, Mathematics (Actuarial Science) or Health Care Administration. The scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years, as long as the recipient continues to maintain eligibility requirements. Recipients of the award will be selected based upon the following criteria: Candidates must rank in the top 15% of their graduating class and show a record of involvement in extracurricular activities, community activities, charitable organizations and other endeavors that indicate significant leadership records and outstanding leadership potential. Financial need will be considered on an informal basis, especially in a tie-breaking situation. The annual scholarships are renewable for up to three years as long as the recipient maintains a GPA of 3.3 or above and continues to pursue a degree in one of the six areas of study outlined above.

To be considered for Incoming Freshman Student Admissions Scholarships, just submit the application for admission. There is no separate application to apply, though demonstration of financial need is required for certain merit-based scholarships. The Admissions Office will coordinate the selection process, which is highly competitive. The process is based off of the student’s admissions profile including: transcripts, academic history, list of involvements and essays. These are among the criteria that will be reviewed for scholarship purposes.

Screening of candidates will begin in December for some early awards and continue through the spring or until awards are accepted.

Scholarship award notices will be sent to scholarship recipients by the beginning of April of student’s senior year. If scholarships are declined, they will be re- awarded to alternates through the summer months. In continuing years, the Financial Aid Office will confirm eligibility and continue the awarding of the scholarship and notification to recipients for the second through fourth year and notify Sentry and the Foundation of the continuing students.

Recipients should write a thank you letter to the Sentry Insurance Foundation and forward it the Foundation Office, S-214.
