University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire

Foundation Scholarships

Piercy, George T. & Clayton T. Memorial

AMOUNT: $4,750.00
AVAILABLE: Annually
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The donors intended that recipients be very special individuals who have some outstanding achievement to their credit. The student should have a very good GPA. Other considerations might be extracurricular activities, accomplishments related to intellectual pursuits, campus life or societal good. Preference would be for a rising junior-level student (money for use in senior year or excess for graduate school). Financial need is not to be a factor to the selection committee.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
In February of each year, a list of all juniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher will be circulated to the Department Chairs and Student Development & Diversity directors. They will be asked to nominate an outstanding student with whom they have had contact. In March, all students so nominated will be invited to apply by completing an application form, which will be available in the Office of Student Development & Diversity. A three-person committee appointed by the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Development & Diversity will screen these applications.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
As designated by the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Development & Diversity
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The recipient will receive a scholarship to be used for expenses during his/her senior year. In the event that the recipient is, or has been, eligible for need-based student aid, the self-help component would be displaced first. Any funds not expended because of this process will be carried forward to make possible additional awards in a future year. While need is not a factor in the selection process, it is expected that in a choice between two equally qualified applicants, need would be considered.
NOTIFICATION:
All those who have returned application forms will be notified of the results by mid-April. The scholarship will be awarded at the Honors Banquet near the end of April.
SPECIAL NOTES:
It is customary for the academic department of the recipient to pay for Honors Banquet tickets for the scholarship recipient and two family members. If more tickets are needed by the recipient, the student must pay for those.
