ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Applicants must be of a sophomore or junior standing and have a declared a math major. They must be full-time students (12 or more credits) and have a minimum of a 3.0 overall GPA. Students in secondary education will be given preference. Financial need is a consideration for the award.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Please complete an application form. Forms are available in the Mathematics Department Office (HHH 508) or copy and paste this link into a new browser window: http://www.uwec.edu/math/Awards/index.htm. Please include your resume and a brief statement of career objectives with your application. Applicants must have one letter of support from math faculty (not necessarily from UW-Eau Claire). Include this letter with your application or send to Chair of the Department of Mathematics Scholarship Committee, Department of Mathematics, UW-Eau Claire, 105 Garfield Avenue, Eau Claire, WI, 54702.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
Third Monday in February.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Recipient must have a demonstrated performance and potential in math education. This may include GPA, career objectives, communication skills, creativity, ingenuity, perseverance, enthusiasm for mathematics and, in particular, math education.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
March 1
NOTIFICATION:
The recipient will receive a notification letter and be honored at the Department of Mathematics Graduation and Awards Celebration. The Department will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Charles E. Brown is a 1939 graduate of Eau Claire State Teachers College. He was a math major and built a career in engineering with the Navy and Rockwell International. He retired as a commander from the U.S. Navy. With Rockwell, he worked with the Apollo and Shuttle programs. The recipient should send a letter of appreciation to Wendy Baker, niece of the late Charles Brown, in care of the UW- Eau Claire Foundation.
