Brown, Charles B. Math Education


AMOUNT: 2 @ $500
AVAILABLE: Annually
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Applicants must be of a sophomore or junior standing, have declared a math major, be full-time students (12 or more credits) and have a minimum of a 3.0 overall GPA. Students in secondary education will be given preference. Financial need is a consideration for the award.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Application forms are available in Mathematics Department office. Complete the form and provide a brief statement of career objectives, along with one letter of support from Math faculty (not necessarily from UWEC). Send to the Chair of the Math Scholarship Committee.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 20
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Recipient must have a demonstrated performance and potential in math education which may include GPA, career objectives, communication skills, creativity, ingenuity, perseverance, enthusiasm for mathematics and, in particular, math education.
SELECTION DEADLINE: March 1
NOTIFICATION:
The recipient will receive notification and be honored at the University Awards Banquet. The Chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Charles E. Brown is a 1939 graduate of Eau Claire State Teachers College. He was a math major and built a career in engineering with the Navy and Rockwell International. He retired as a commander from the U.S. Navy. With Rockwell, he worked with the Apollo and Shuttle programs. The recipient should send a letter of appreciation to Robert A. Dole and Wendy Baker, a niece and nephew of the late Charles Brown, in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.
