AMOUNT: $1,000 AVAILABLE: Annually ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: One annual award will be made to an outstanding UW-Eau Claire sophomore or junior seeking to complete a service project in Wisconsin, the United States or internationally. The service project must be articulated through a plan of action in terms of the project, specific arrangements, the target audience of the service and the anticipated outcome. A portion of the fellowship award may be used to cover routine expenses associated with travel to and lodging at the service site and a portion of the award must be used to fulfill the service learning aspect. This may include, but not be limited to, supplies, materials and other resources directly used in providing service to the target population. The recipient shall receive half the grant as he/she is preparing for the service project and making travel/lodging arrangements and the other half when he/she returns and provides a written report on the results of the service activity. The international service fellowship may be completed through one of the university’s approved international study abroad sites or in another international setting. History majors and women are encouraged to apply for this program. If all things are equal among the applicants, a history major and/or woman applicant shall receive special consideration in the selection process.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: An application, available in the Center for Service Learning, Center for International Education, Women’s Studies Center and History Department, must be completed and submitted for the Center for Service Learning. The application should include a letter explaining the service project and at least one faculty recommendation endorsing the service project. If the targeted service activity is to be completed in conjunction with a study abroad experience, the applicant must be accepted into the University’s study abroad program as a prerequisite for receiving the service fellowship.APPLICATION DEADLINE: The first Monday in April SELECTION PROCEDURE: Representatives from the Center for Service Learning, Center for International Education, Women’s Studies Center and History Department, shall review applications and references and select the recipient.SELECTION DEADLINE: NOTIFICATION: The recipient will be notified by a letter from the Director of the Center for Service Learning, who will also complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.SPECIAL NOTES: The recipient will have up to 12 months from the date of notification of the award to complete the study abroad and service project and provide a written report or oral presentation on their service activity.
