Foundation Scholarships

DR. "O", Students of Chemistry

AMOUNT: One award at $2500
AVAILABLE: Annually
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The highly preferred type of student to receive this scholarship in honor of Dr. Leo Ochrymowycz is not necessarily the one with the best academic standing or GPA. A 2.50 Cumulative GPA would suffice. It would be ideal to give it to one of the Chemistry majors who is a “good” academic student, but one who “needs a boost”; a “marginal” person with real potential; a person with a “a fire in his/her belly” to succeed in Chemistry; one who illustrates tenacity and desire. The scholarship should provide to the recipient the opportunity to participate in a collaborative scholarly endeavor with a UWEC Chemistry Department faculty mentor rather than seek additional external subsistence employment. There is a soft preference for minorities and women. Applicants must be continuing UWEC students having completed at least one semester of study at UWEC, having earned at least 45 credits toward a Chemistry Liberal Arts or Chemistry-ACS major. Applicants must have a realistic aspiration to pursue graduate study. The scholarship will provide one award at $2500.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Applicants should contact the Chemistry Department Office to apply for the scholarship.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
As determined by the Chemistry Department.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The Scholarship Committee of the Chemistry Department based upon the stated criteria above will choose the recipient.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
By the conclusion of the spring semester.
NOTIFICATION:
The recipient will be sent a letter from the Chair of the Chemistry Department Scholarship Committee. The Chair will also complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The recipient should write thank-you letters to Mark and Emiko Purgett with a copy to Dr. Leo Ochrymowycz, and forward to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214.
