AVAILABLE: Annually
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The William E. Nelson Memorial Scholarship is to be awarded to students planning a career involving outdoor environment and/or conservation. Students with Biology, Environmental & Public Health, Pre-Forestry, Conservation, Geology with an Environmental Studies emphasis, Hydrogeology or water chemistry emphasis, Environmental Geology and Earth Resources emphasis, Earth Science emphasis, Geography Resource Management or Land Use emphasis or other majors, but with a keen interest in, and plans for, an outdoor, nature-related career are encouraged to apply. Available to undergraduates with financial need and academic promise, but not necessarily ranked near the top of his/her class. May be renewable in subsequent years as long as satisfactory academic progress is made while carrying a full-time academic load.

For ENPH: An email will be sent to all declared majors indicating applications are being accepted and will include a deadline date for applications with a link to the scholarship site http://www.uwec.edu/ph/scholarships.htm. Application materials can be found online at the Department of Biology Scholarship website at www.uwec.edu/biology/mainpage/Scholarships.htm
APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 15
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Department of Biology Scholarship Committee, which has faculty representation from the major subdisciplines of biology. Applications will be evaluated both in terms of their academic merit and their compatibility with award eligibility criteria.
SELECTION DEADLINE: April 30
NOTIFICATION:
An award letter will be sent to the recipient by the Biology Chair. The Financial Aid Office will be sent a completed Scholarship Award Form.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The recipient should send a thank you note to Dale Hovland in care of the UW-EC Foundation Office. In time, multiple awards may be given, as determined by the UW-EC Foundation Office.
