AMOUNT: $200AVAILABLE: AnnuallyELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: The Joseph Giordano Memorial Scholarship is awarded based upon the recommendation by the faculty of the Department of Communication and Journalism based on the following criteria: a continuing Mass Communication major with an emphasis in Public Relations, junior or senior status during the award year; demonstrated interest in diversity and an appreciation for differences shown in completed coursework in cultural diversity courses; demonstrated excellence in public speaking, shown in CJ 202 grades; member of the Forensics team, etc.; successful completion of at least one internship; and total GPA of 3.34 or higher at time of nomination.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Applications are available at www.uwec.edu/cj/scholarships.htm.APPLICATION DEADLINE: N/A SELECTION PROCEDURE: The Department of Communication and Journalism scholarship committee will select the recipient.SELECTION DEADLINE: early to mid April NOTIFICATION: The Chair of the Department of Communication and Journalism will send notification to the recipient and complete and submit a Scholarship Award Form to the office of Financial Aid.SPECIAL NOTES: Dr. Joseph Giordano, Associate Professor, Department of Communication and Journalism and Honorary Blugold Alumni joined the UWEC faculty in 1989 and taught courses in public relations and speech until his death in 2001. He was an active researcher on public relations, communication and organizational culture, organizational identification, and communication and technology. A letter of gratitude addressed to the family of Dr. Giordano should be submitted directly to the Department of Communication and Journalism program assistant. It is expected that the winner of this award will attend the Department of Communication and Journalism Student Excellence Recognition Reception held the last day of spring classes. |
