ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
This scholarship is for full-time continuing students who intend to pursue a career in radio, television, news, and entertainment communications media. Available to undergraduate and graduate students with demonstrated financial need. This scholarship is only for tuition and fees for full-time students. The geographic area is open but is not intended for international students. The institution has the discretion to award future scholarships to the same student in subsequent years. All other criteria being met, preference is given to students who have a current relationship (e.g., relative of active or retired, full or part-time employees) with Journal Communications, Inc., or one of its subsidiaries. Journal Communications companies include: Journal Sentinel, Inc., Journal Broadcast Group; Journal Community Publishing Group, IPC Print Services Inc., and PrimeNet. Although there is no specific grade requirement, the recipient should show scholastic ability based on high school or college transcripts as a measure of academic performance and ability to succeed.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Application forms are available from the Department of Communication and Journalism office.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
Approximately the third week of fall semester classes.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
A committee of Communication and Journalism faculty will select the recipient(s).

NOTIFICATION:
Recipients will receive official notification from the Department of Communication and Journalism Chair. The Chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” for each recipient to the Financial Aid Office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
A letter of gratitude addressed to the Damm Advisory Committee for the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Walter Jay and Clara Charlotte Damm Scholarship should be submitted directly to the Department of Communication and Journalism program assistant, with a copy to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, S-214. It is expected that the recipient will attend the Department of Communication and Journalism Student Excellence Recognition Reception the last day of spring classes. Preference that scholarships should provide each student with $1,000 per semester whenever possible. A separate report, in the format indicated by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, is required to be completed by the Communication and Journalism Department prior to October 15th.
