AMOUNT: One at $600 AVAILABLE: Available ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: The award may be given to an incoming freshman who has demonstrated excellence as a string musician and a desire to major in Music. The award also may be given to a current UW-Eau Claire student who is a full-time Music major and who has provided leadership and excellence as a string musician. Participation in the University Symphony Orchestra or the University Chamber Orchestra is required. The returning student should have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Applications will be available in the Music and Theatre Arts Department Office. The application should include a letter of recommendation from the student’s applied string teacher.APPLICATION DEADLINE: Spring, as determined by the Department of Music and Theatre Arts.SELECTION PROCEDURE: The recipient will be determined by the department’s scholarship committee.SELECTION DEADLINE: Spring Semester. NOTIFICATION: The Department Chair will notify the recipient and announce the award at the Department’s Annual Awards Ceremony in May. The Chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.SPECIAL NOTES: The scholarship amount will be credited to the student’s account at the time of registration for the fall term, or the amount may be spread equally over two semesters. Additional contributions to this fund may be made at any time from any source. It is the donors’ intent that the award amount increases over time in order to keep pace with tuition levels. John and Carrie Tietz and Mrs. Lila Branger Tietz established the Edith Werdermann Hofrichter Music Scholarship in May 1999. Mrs. Hofrichter was the godmother of Mr. Tietz; Mrs. Lila Tietz was a graduate of UW-Eau Claire and a cousin-in-law of Mrs. Hofrichter. This scholarship recognizes Mrs. Hofrichter’s many years of service in public school education in Wisconsin, talent as an accomplished violinist and years as an Eau Claire resident. Letters of appreciation should be addressed to Mr. and Mrs. John Tietz, c/o the Foundation Office. |
