Lorentz Memorial Business

AVAILABLE: Annually, Nonrenewable
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Open to College of Business Management-Entrepreneur majors who have been admitted to the Entrepreneur Program. Strong academic achievement. Participation in extracurricular activities with preference given to athletic activities. Strong, demonstrated interest in entrepreneurial ventures.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Please submit the following information to the Director of the Entrepreneur Program: degree audit, completed Entrepreneur Program application, and completed scholarship application form (obtain from Entrepreneur Program Office or online at www.uwec.edu/cob/ep).
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
The application deadline is the last Friday in March; however, it is preferred that the application be included with the student’s application to the Entrepreneur Program.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The Lorentz College of Business Memorial Scholarship Committee selects the award recipient.

NOTIFICATION:
By letter. The Chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Dr. Richard Lorentz came to the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire in 1971 as a faculty member in the Department of Business Administration. An alumnus of UW-Eau Claire, he held both a master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of Northern Colorado. Over his career he taught courses in management, sales, insurance, accounting, economics, finance and small business management. He served as director of the Small Business Institute until 1994, and his student consulting teams received many regional and national awards under his leadership. He was a key player in setting up the College of Business Entrepreneur Program in 1994 and was named the first recipient of the Dennis L. Heyde Chair of Entrepreneurship. He also was a timekeeper for men’s and women’s basketball at UW-Eau Claire for 25 years and was an avid supporter of university athletics. He retired from the faculty in 1998. The Lorentz College of Business Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr. Kevin E. Murphy, a former faculty member of the UW-Eau Claire Department of Accountancy. Faculty at UWEC and friends of Lorentz also contributed to the funding of the scholarship. Scholarship recipients should direct separate letters of appreciation to Dr. Kevin E. Murphy and Mrs. Richard Lorentz in care of Dr. Raymond Hughes, Entrepreneurship Program Director.
