ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
This scholarship was created and is endowed through the generosity of Kell Container Corporation of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, in order to offer a premier award for an undergraduate student who is involved in faculty/student research collaboration at UW-Eau Claire. The scholarship will be supplemented with project expenses for a student stipend, supplies, and travel through the Office of University Research. In addition, the faculty mentor will receive a $2,000 stipend during the project period. The recipient will be an undergraduate student with junior or senior standing at UW-EC during the award period. The recipient will have conducted outstanding collaborative research or demonstrated the potential for outstanding undergraduate research. Students from all disciplines may apply.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Students may apply directly for the scholarship or may be nominated for this award by faculty members with whom they collaborate or plan to collaborate on undergraduate research projects. Application requirements: nominees and applicants must submit the following materials to the Office of University Research: A letter of recommendation from a faculty mentor who is familiar with the student’s research and potential. Evidence of academic standing as indicated in an official transcript of all college-level coursework. Evidence of financial need, if applicable. Attach a copy of your Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). A resume including past research accomplishments. A plan for proposed collaborative research to be accomplished during the award period. The proposal consists of the cover page (Form I), a narrative that should be no longer than ten double-spaced, typed pages, and a brief vita of the faculty mentor. The narrative should include clear statements of the: Objectives Project description and its relationship to the state of knowledge in the field. Significance of the proposed project. Nature and extent of student involvement. Plan for disseminating the results. List of literature cited.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
In February as determined annually by the Office of University Research.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
This scholarship will be administered by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs under the direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Karen Havholm, who will annually organize a selection committee of faculty members with equal representation from each College. The committee will select the recipient on a best-qualified basis and in accordance with donor guidelines established by the UW-EC Foundation. In the event of a tie between two applicants, the Selection Committee will consider financial need and the student from the College of Business as the determining factors.

NOTIFICATION:
The Office of University Research will notify the recipient prior to the end of each academic year. Since this is one of the most prestigious awards available to students at UW-Eau Claire, public recognition of recipients and donors is encouraged during Student Research Day, the Honors Banquet, or other appropriate venues.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The Kell Container Corporation Scholarship recipient will provide a report by the end of the fall semester indicating progress made on the proposed collaborative research. Positive review of this report will serve as the basis for continued scholarship support during the spring semester. The Kell Scholar will also be expected to participate in the annual UW-Eau Claire Student Research Day.
