SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: $500.00 AVAILABLE: ODD ALTERNATING YEARS (2007-08, 2008-09, etc.)ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: All applicants must have completed, or be scheduled to complete, a bachelor's degree or equivalent in communication disorders by August of the current year. Applicants must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or greater and must be applying for full standing in the graduate degree program in CDIS at UW-Eau Claire concurrently with application for this scholarship. Students accepted with conditional status are not eligible for this scholarship. Only applicants, who have a completed graduate school application on or before February 15, will be eligible for this scholarship award.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Only applicants who complete the scholarship application form and have at least two letters of recommendation for the scholarship submitted by February 15 will be eligible for the award. Application/nomination forms are available in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 1 SELECTION PROCEDURE: Awarding of the scholarship will be determined based upon a combination of past accomplishments and strong undergraduate academic records. A committee of past CSD master's degree graduates from UW-Eau Claire will independently rank applications for this scholarship. In the event of a tie, committee members will be asked to rank the tied applications. The Scholarship Committee will submit its rankings to the Chair of the Department of CSD.SELECTION DEADLINE: Mid-March NOTIFICATION: The award winner will be notified in writing when admission letters are sent to the students who are accepted for the graduate degree program. The award will be offered to the highest-ranked applicant who accepts admission. The chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.SPECIAL NOTES: Any questions about this scholarship should be directed to the Chairperson of the Department of Communication Disorders. The recipient should send a thank you note to Paul and Linda Kuehn in care of the UW-EC Foundation Office. OR THEAMOUNT: $500.00 AVAILABLE: ALTERNATE EVEN YEARS (2003-04; 2005-06, etc.)ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: The recipient of this scholarship must be at least a second semester junior, admitted to the Special Education program, and possess the following characteristics: Exhibits behavior, which indicates that candidate has potential for becoming a highly effective teacher of young children with disabilities and a professional leader for the improvement and expansion of services at the local, state and national level. Demonstrates potential for becoming a highly effective teacher and professional leader which includes: a) strong academic skills, b) positive record of volunteerism with person with disabilities, c) positive record of pre-student teaching experiences based on variety, amount and quality reported by teachers and parents, d) leadership and participation in special education student activities, e) enthusiasm for teaching, and f) commitment and ability to employ "effective" intervention practices.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Application/nomination forms are available in the Office of the College of Education and Human Sciences. Complete and return the form along with an autobiographical essay between 500-1000 words describing future plans and goals to the Scholarship Committee. Ask three members of the College of Education and Human Sciences faculty, who are familiar with your achievements at the University, to submit letters of recommendation to the Scholarship Committee.APPLICATION DEADLINE: On or about March 1. Contact College of Education and Human Sciences for exact date.SELECTION PROCEDURE: The College of Education and Human Sciences Scholarship Committee will review applications and select the award recipient by consensus.SELECTION DEADLINE: On or about April 1. NOTIFICATION: The Committee will notify the student by letter. The Financial Aid Office and UWEC Foundation Office should also be notified of the recipient.SPECIAL NOTES: The recipient should send a thank you note to Paul and Linda Kuehn in care of the UWEC Foundation Office. |
