Foundation Scholarships

Applicants must be enrolled at UW-Eau Claire for at least 8 semester credits with at least one math course. Applicants must have declared mathematics as their major or minor; be of freshman or sophomore standing and have completed Math 114 in one of the last two semesters or summer session; or be a freshman and have completed a math course numbered 215 or above (excluding Math 246); and have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.

Please include a brief statement of career objectives with your application (50-100 words). Applicants must have one letter of support from math faculty (not necessarily from UW-Eau Claire). Include this letter with your application or send to Chair of the Department of Mathematics Scholarship Committee, Department of Mathematics, UW-Eau Claire, 105 Garfield Avenue, Eau Claire, WI, 54702.

Third Monday in February

Selection will be based on demonstrated performance and potential in math which may include such things as GPA, career objective, communication skills, creativity, ingenuity, reliability, enthusiasm for the discipline, and participation in class and other Math activities. The Mathematics Department Awards Committee will solicit recommendations from the applicant’s former and present mathematics instructors. Based on these recommendations, possible consultation with the instructor(s) involved, and the written statement, the Awards Committee will then select the recipient of the award.

March 1

The recipient will receive a notification letter and will be honored at the Department of Mathematics Graduation and Awards Celebration. The Department will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.
