Foundation Scholarships

Annually—in rotation Pre-Med. 2007-2008, Public Health Professions in 2008-2009, and Nursing 2006-2007

This scholarship is available to juniors, seniors or graduate students in the fields of Public Health Professions, Nursing and Pre-Medicine. Students with strong academic backgrounds and a minimum 3.5 GPA in the major field of study are encouraged to apply. Financial need is not required; however, in instances when all other factors are equal between two finalists, the student exhibiting financial need shall be considered first for the award. The scholarship award will rotate on a three-year cycle between the fields of Public Health Professions, Nursing and Pre-Medicine. The rotation cycle segments are designated as follows: 1. Department of Public Health Professions; 2. College of Nursing and Health Sciences; and 3. Pre-Medicine Program. Once the cycle has been completed, it continues as it began.

Application/nomination forms are available in the Department and Pre-Medicine Advisors' offices. The form, with appropriate supporting information, should be returned to the appropriate office. For ENPH: An email will be sent to all declared majors indicating applications are being accepted and will include a deadline date for applications with a link to the scholarship site http://www.uwec.edu/ph/scholarships.htm. For Nursing: Application Forms - Students who are admitted to the nursing program at UW-Eau Claire will receive an email in February when the scholarship application is ready and available. The email will include the path to the online application forms – (http://www.uwec.edu/nurs/ on the bottom of the page under HOT LINKS). The forms are filled out and submitted on line, AND a hard copy must be printed off and submitted along with a written essay to the Dean’s Assistant Office, Nursing 277, by the deadline. Written essay - each application must include one written essay in not more than 200-300 words stating why you believe you should be awarded each of the scholarships for which you are applying. The essay must address the eligibility criteria for each of the scholarships that you are applying for. The criteria are listed on the scholarship website http://www.uwec.edu/finaid/aid/FDNscholarships.htm. Financial Need – For scholarships that indicate “financial need required” a FAFSA Financial Aid form must be filled out and there must be some level of financial need. Contact the Financial Aids office for the form at 715-836-3373. Please apply for financial aid by March 1.

Pre-Med: March 15; Nursing and Health Sciences March 3; Public Health Professions: as determined by department.

The respective academic scholarship selection committee shall determine if the academic requirements of the scholarship have been met by the applicants.

Pre-med: March 15; Nursing: prior to the Nursing and Health Sciences scholarship dinner; PHP: as determined by department

It will be the responsibility of the Selection Committee to complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office. They should also inform the recipient and the UWEC Foundation Office, in writing.
