Foundation Scholarships

Minnick, Jana Field Study

$600.00 total (may be divided among equally-worthy applicants).

Annually

Designated for students enrolled in Geography 401: Capstone Seminar or equivalent course. Must be a junior or senior Geography major. Must show academic accomplishment. Must show financial need. Must use money for travel expenses associated with GEOG 401 or equivalent.

Students must complete and return the application form to the Geography and Anthropology Department Office by the third Friday of each semester.

The Chair of the Department of Geography and Anthropology and/or the department scholarship committee will select the recipient(s).

This scholarship will be awarded by March 1.

Recipient will receive official notification from the Geography Department Chair. The Chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.

Jana Minnick enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1993 and majored in geography. In 1997, Jana participated in an incredible field study experience led by Dr. Brady Foust to San Francisco. A genuine person who believed in the gifts of nature, as well as the gifts of people, Jana advocated for social justice and peace. Her energy was contagious and her appreciation for the gift of experience extended far beyond her years. Jana died in a car accident in November, 1997, just before her University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire commencement. This scholarship as named by Professor Foust gives testimony to the power of Jana’s presence. Her family and friends hope that this memorial established in 1998 will serve as a reminder to all of Jana’s generous spirit and the importance to appreciate all things natural. Recipient should write a letter of thanks to the family of Jana Minnick and forward to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214.
